3rd place at Falcon Invitational

The third annual Falcon Invitational was held at Stone Ridge on April 13th and 14th. Even though the wind and rain did not let up, the ladies played 36 holes, instead of 54, and ended in 3rd place. On the second day, the BGSU team had the lowest team score in the field with a 322, this is also the lowest score for BG this spring. Megan Gormley finished one off the lead with a 158, Megan Bader had a 162, and Lauren Glew shot a 165, which placed all three Falcons in the top 11. We had a lot of fun playing on our home course, even though the sun was not shining, we still enjoyed ourselves!

With this strong finish, the team headed to Hannah Lambert's home course of Pine Hills to play in the Cleveland State Invitational. Although the practice round was nice, the girls only completed one hole before the course was declared unplayable, and the tournament was cancelled.

Up next is the MAC Championship April 24th - 26th. This tournament is 72 holes (more than we have competed in one tournament all year). Longaberger Golf Course is a challenging course in southern Ohio, but the Falcons are ready for it!! The team has seen this course before and we are excited to get out there and end the season strong!!

Hole In ONE!!

On the blustery second day of the Bradley Invitational, sophomore Marisa Glew hit a 6 iron off the 8th tee and recorded the first ace of her career. This par three was playing roughly 130 yards with the green a little downhill from the tee box, so it was a perfect view to watch the ball go into the cup. She did not even think about it going in the hole but knew it was a good shot while the ball was still in the air. The ball bounced once on the green and then trickled into the hole. Unfortunately no one on the team was able to see this accomplishment, but it sure was the main topic of conversation on the eight hour bus ride home!! Now, four of the six current Falcon golfers have hole in ones, but Marisa is the only to do it in competition.

We met a golf legend!!

Pictured here is the team with Kathy Whitworth.

Kathy Whitworth spoke after a tournament round in Arizona. Whitworth has won 88 LPGA events, more than any other golfer in history, was captain of the Solhheim Cup in 1990 and won three of the four majors in golf. She spoke to all the teams about what it takes to be a champion and the hard work necessary to get there. It was very inspirational to hear her talk and got us motivated for tournament we were playing in!

The Start of the Spring Season and the Blog!!

Hey Falcon Fans!

We just got back from the spring break trip to Arizona where the weather was warm, the sun was shining, and the team had 7 full days of golf! The Spring Season opened with 54 holes of competition in the Duramed Collegiate Invitational at Rio Verde. This tournament is a team favorite not only because it is in Arizona, but all teams stay with host families living in the community, and the Falcons stay at the same four houses every year. We love and appreciate the people we stay with and all of the support and fun they provide!

Back in Ohio, the weather is finally warming up and the team was able to get outside this week. After day 4 of practicing outdoors, the team looks ready for the rest of the season. This Spring the Falcons are traveling to four tournaments and hosting one of their own at Stone Ridge Golf Club in Bowling Green.
